It is a Community Seed Bank through which we save, preserve and multiply, the old, traditional and rare Romanian seeds.
The bank was born within a project initiated by the NGO – Romania in Transition Association, with mentoring and support from Arche Noah, the International Association of Seed Savers, based in Austria.
The model we want to adapt to the conditions in Romania has been developed by them over 30 years, and now the Arche Noah collection has over 5,700 traditional seed records and 16,000 supporting members.
What is the vision?
A vast and diverse collection of seeds from old, traditional and rare varieties from Romania, preserved and multiplied safely, in the long run, for the benefit of the community of seed savers and future generations.
What is the mission?
* Collection of traditional seeds, rescue, storage for crisis situations (calamities, loss of variety), by setting up long-term collections (30+)
* This seeds to re-enter in people’s gardens, being multiplied by seed bank members under specific conditions.
Why to be a member?
* Access to useful information about saving, preserving and propagating and preserving traditional seeds.
* Closer contact with the community which offers the possibility to exchange experience and mutual help.
* The safety of preserving valuable traditional varieties. Priority access to seeds from the bank, within the limit of what is available from the bank.
* To support the Bank’s activities (collection, protection, storage, propagation of traditional seeds)
